Mumbai Sphere: why is it been made, decision of MSRDC and people reaction on decision of sphere.

Mumbai Sphere: On 24 October 2024 Maharashtra state road development corporation (MSRDC) proposed a 50 feet LED-sphere in Bandra reclamations near Bandra Worli Sea Link, Mumbai. It will be replica of Vegas sphere.

Features of Mumbai sphere and construction plans.

This 50-feet sphere will have led panels, raised platform with 40-40 feet screens on 3 sides and a solar panel on other side. Apart from this, there will also be a vertical garden beneath the screens. It will also drip irrigation system, solar panels and atmospheric water generations technology. This structure will be developed in partnership of private contractor on a build-operate-transfer basis for a period of 20 years.

Aims and purpose of Mumbai Sphere.

The main purpose and aim of the giant sphere are to display and showcase advertisement, disaster management, public awareness, and patriotic messages. The sphere will also enhance city vibe, aesthetic and cultural appeals. This will also increase the futuristic vibes says MSRDC.

Movement of residents from the area of construction of Mumbai Sphere.

On the proposal of the sphere the MSRDC also ask residents of the area to move from the area of the sphere construction. To this the resident show opposition, according to them this sphere is only a “commercial space on the seaside of the sea link” and “its will just be a new selfie point for the people”.

Bandra reclamation area volunteers association comment on people opposition.

To this opposition Vaidya, the chairperson of Bandra reclamation area volunteers’ association (BROVO) said that, they have made a several attempts to commercialise the space on the sea link but apart from all the efforts were not succeeded.

There have been several reactions to the sphere good and bad both. Some see it as a new space of commercialisation and new space will be better for mental health. some other reacted to this as issue, criticized and said the government can use all the money of sphere development to build new roads and trains, infrastructure and clean drinking water.
