Test Cricket: Chasing Records and Facing Challenges

This year, I crossed a huge milestone by surpassing Alastair Cook to become England’s highest Test run-scorer. It happened at Lord’s, where I ended a tough day unbeaten on 99. That moment, with the crowd roaring and my teammates by my side, is one I’ll never forget. It’s not about the numbers, though—it’s about contributing to the team and loving every minute of Test cricket.

The Test series against India was intense. In my last Test at Lord’s in July, I helped England reach 251 for four on a tricky opening day. Facing India’s bowlers always tests your grit, and I’m proud of how we stuck it out. Now, my eyes are on the Ashes in Australia later this year. That rivalry brings out something special, and I’m ready to give it everything.

Champions Trophy 2025: A Learning Curve

The ICC Champions Trophy was a wild ride. England gave it our all, but we bowed out in the group stage after a nail-biting eight-run loss to Afghanistan. Their batsmen, Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai, were on fire, and we just couldn’t close the gap. Despite the result, I loved batting at No. 3 in the ODIs, anchoring the innings and setting up our big hitters. I’ve pushed for more 50-over games to sharpen our skills for tournaments like these, and I’m confident we’ll come back stronger.

Being back in the ODI setup after missing out post-2023 World Cup has been refreshing. The vibe in Brendon McCullum’s white-ball squad is electric, and I’m excited to keep contributing.

Off the Field: Family, Fans, and Fair Play

Joe Root : When I’m not playing, I’m soaking up time with my family—it’s the best way to recharge. I’ve also been vocal about small ways to improve cricket, like suggesting a challenge cap for ball changes in Tests to keep the game fair. The support from fans has been unreal, especially when I saw a post about my Test stats since 2021: 107 innings, 5,391 runs, an average of 65.74, with 20 centuries and 17 fifties. Those numbers are humbling, but it’s your encouragement that keeps me going.

What’s Next?
