She was an academically inclined student and aspired to become a doctor. She pursued her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) but had to put her medical studies on hold when her acting career took off unexpectedly.

Soundarya’s foray into acting was accidental. While she was still a student, Kannada director K. S. R. Das offered her a role in his 1992 film, Gandharva, opposite Shivarajkumar. Although the movie did not garner much attention, it marked the beginning of a remarkable career.

Her big break came with the 1993 Kannada film Bhagavan Sri Saibaba, in which she played a significant role. The helicopter caught fire mid-air and crashed, killing all onboard, including her brother Amarnath.
