Ahmedabad: Australia defeated India by 7 wickets to win the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.
Chasing a target of 241, Australia’s openers, David Warner and Aaron Finch, put on a 121-run partnership to set the tone for the chase. Warner scored 54 off 42 balls, while Finch made 68 off 51 balls.
The Australian middle order also contributed with valuable knocks, with Steve Smith scoring 34, Marnus Labuschagne making 33, and Marcus Stoinis making 28.
India’s bowlers struggled to contain the Australian batsmen, with only Jasprit Bumrah taking two wickets.
India’s batting was also disappointing, with no batsman able to make a significant contribution. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 45, while Virat Kohli made 37.
The win is Australia’s fifth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup title, and their first since 2003. It is also their first World Cup title since Steve Smith and David Warner returned from their suspensions.
