Kolkata earthquake: On February 25, 2025 a round 6:10 a.m. an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude occurred in Bay of Bengal. This led to several destruction and tremors in Kolkata and nearby areas as reported by the National center of seismology affected.

It also affected some of the areas of the coast region of Puri in Orissa. The depth of the earthquake was 91 km.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Bay of Bengal at its depth of 91 km. This has led to tremors and little destruction in the area near Kolkata, West Bengal and Orissa. Though these areas did not have any major destruction.

1. Kolkata fall under seismic zone lll which is a moderated risk area. So organizations like national building code of India NVC and Kolkata municipal corporation has sets several measures to deal with such kind of situation.
2. The West Bengal disaster management authorities WBDMA and national disaster management authorities NDMA have also said several measures to deal with earthquake and other problem.

3. There is emergency response team, evacuation procedures and coordination with hospital police and other services for such situations.
4. There have also been several public awareness drill to tell people how to deal with such situation and disasters. These are set in several schools, camps and offices.
5. Changes in the area plans. The improvement of old buildings and properties.

8. We should Follow Official Updates, Listen to emergency broadcasts or messages from disaster response agencies.
